Hagen-Renaker Figurines

Hagen-Renaker Pottery got its start in Culver City in the early 1940's, when John and Maxine Renaker, began experimenting in their garage with various types of ceramics; dinnerware, flower bowls, shadowboxes. When Maxine sculpted three small ducks the Renakers had a starting point for the miniatures that the company would become best known for.
In 1946, the Renakers, with financial help from Maxine's father, Ole Hagen, moved to a facility in Monrovia. Designers were hired and additional pottery equipment was added. Much of the early production was florist supply items, but by 1949 a significant number of animal miniatures were being produced, including ducks, skunks, turtles, squirrels and rabbits. The addition of new designers led to the development of more domestic animals, dogs and cats, which today are one of the strongest portions of the line.
In 1966 The Hagen-Renaker Pottery was moved approximately 30 miles further east to its current location in San Dimas. In 1980, Hagen-Renaker acquired another plant from Freeman McFarlin located in San Marcos. Much of the production was shifted to this new pottery until 1986, when it was closed and production returned to San Dimas where it operates today.
